ELECTROTHERAPY AND MORE

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (Tens)

Electrical nerve stimulation is a treatment for pain that can be used for acute pain (e.g. during labour or after surgery) or for chronic pain (e.g. low back pain). It is a form of electrical energy sent in various waveforms to the nerves.

TENS is a noninvasive way to override or block signals from the nerves to spinal cord and brain. Pain messages may be altered enough to provide temporary or even long lasting pain relief. In addition to controlling pain, this type of electrical stimulation can also improve local circulation and reduce or eliminate muscle spasm.

Ultrasound Therapy

Therapeutic ultrasound utilizes sound waves to penetrate the body and help heal pain and inflammation. Therapeutic ultrasound can penetrate your tissue up to 3-4 inches.

Ultrasound waves penetrate deep into tissue to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, reduce muscles spasm, accelerate healing and increase range of motion.

Interferential Therapy

Interferential stimulation is a type of electrical fire up that uses a medium frequency of alternating currents to incite tissue of injured muscles and joints. The medium frequency is carried by the two independent circuits of paired electrodes. Interferential stimulation is believed to reduce pain, decrease swelling or oedema, and increase blood circulation in damaged tissue thus stimulating repair and health.

Heat Therapy

Also called thermotherapy, is the application of heat to the body for pain relief and muscle relax. The therapeutic effect of heat includes decreasing joint stiffness, reducing pain, relieving muscles spasm and increasing blood flow.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is the use of cold in the treatment of acute and sub acute injury as well as to decrease the discomfort after athletic reconditioning. The most common cryotherapy tools used at MyPhysio FiCoMo Specialist Centre includes ice pack, ice massage, cryotherapy auto chill machine.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio taping is a technique based on the body’s own natural healing process. This kinesio taping exhibits its efficacy through the activation of neurological and circulatory systems.

The kinesio taping method is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles and to support muscles in movement on a 24hr/day basis.

Kinesio taping gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is also used for preventive maintenance, oedema, and to treat pain.
