World Physiotherapy Day 2015 (volunteer)

On Sunday, 13th September we celebrated World Physiotherapy Day 2015 in My Physio. An idea of that event was to create an awareness on how physiotherapy can empower you and the community in moving healthily. As professional Movement Specialists, our concern is focused on a community to stay safe, secure and independent in activities of daily living.

We are aware that one of a common medical situation especially among older adults is the risk of fall. We believe providing assessment and education with regards to preventing  falls among the public is an important role. With this in mind, we conducted a movement and balance screening for free 4 stations for balance and movements of the spine were designed for the people that came.

The first two stations were designed to conduct a number of tests to assess the balance, gait, mobility and risk of fall among our participators. At the third station, they had a chance to be evaluated thoroughly through a real-time assessment machine called the Valedo Motion. This machine uses a current technology from Switzerland which evaluates how well their spine could move. After the completion of the 4 stations, every participant was given a summary and advice by experienced Consultant Physiotherapists. Apart from these free activities, there were also two health talks given by our Ms Lim Yi Lin – Consultant Physiotherapist & the founder of My Physio.

My role as a Volunteer Physiotherapist to conduct the tests was a truly valuable experience that day. Why? First of all, I was given a great opportunity to meet the Malaysian community from a perspective of an European volunteer physiotherapist. Even though I was the only foreigner there that day I found it so easy to ‘break the ice’. It would not be possible without a warm and friendly attitude of participants that I have experienced. What is more, I felt positively surprised about the number of people who decided to spend their Sunday by coming to our centre in order to get to know something important related to their health. This made me realise how the local community takes personal responsibility for their own health with a pro-active attitude. I feel that organising events like – Physio Day was a great opportunity for both the physiotherapists and participants to learn a lot about each other as well as to raise awareness about the crucial contribution our profession makes to keeping people well, mobile and independent. I find it as a remarkable privilege to be a part of that day as a volunteer.

Preparing the way for the MUSIC of FiCoMo 4 Life!

I have always treasured our unique blend of cultures in Malaysia. One of the most striking art of this blend is the music it creates with this rich cultures intertwined in it!

So, when I began to plan for our CSR projects of FiCoMo 4 Life….I called up a dear friend , Juwita Suwito! I wanted to use as much local music as I could for our locally inspired FiCoMo 4 Life Movement Exercises!

We met and got down to work almost immediately with Juwita’s vast experience with local artists and song writers. It was such a fun time of enjoying the different music tracks and choosing the right numbers for the right Movement Exercises!

FiCoMo 4 Life Movement Exercises had 3 categories which entails Strength , Flexibility and Balance. Choosing the right song for the 3 different Movement choreographies was so refreshing as I did not realise how much our local music talents had grown exponentially. SYABAS to our wonderful , budding and professional talents!!! ( which includes you, Ju! )

I believe the Movements we have designed with the FiCoMo Concept coupled with the flow of the music and the energy of our team will IMPACT people’s MOVEMENT HEALTH! Let’s remember that a healthier life requires us to not just to Eat Healthier….BUT to MOVE Healthier!

Stay connected with news about our FiCoMo 4 Life events and projects to the community on website.

Last but not least, THANK YOU Juwita Suwito for wanting to be a part of our CSR project as our Music Curator!
