TYPES OF SERVICES

Anis is my 14 year old daughter. She is a beautiful and cheerful girl with quadriplegic cerebral palsy (CP).

She is able to understand instructions and able to communicate with you using her eye contact and body movements/gestures.

I believe Anis really needs physiotherapy as a strategy and treatment to maximize her independence, reduce her daily life barriers and increase her ability to socially integrate into the community activities around her. I believe physiotherapy will empower Anis and us(parents) with these bio-psychosocial needs and skills which will lead her to an enhanced quality of life.

I believe that DNS will help Anis to progress by following the right steps. I observed that after a number of sessions, she is able to understand how to blow and how to move her fingers. It may still be in a lower stage of progress, but for me it IS PROGRESS and I am happy with it. Of course, I need a lot of practice at home to apply what Ms Lai Yoong (Anis’ physiotherapist)...hehehe

The stimulation (reflex locomotion) that Ms Lai Yoong does has also helped her to be more calm and be able to breathe well.

I read a few articles about CP where they mentioned about the central nervous system being ‘damaged’ (sorry no idea for the right term). However, I have not personally found satisfactory explanations about it and how to improve the Central Nervous System...etc. Then when I read about DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization by Prof. Kolar), the theory and concept that they use, it gave me a new hope!

I feel so lucky when a good physiotherapist is willing to treat her. Thank you very much Ms. Lai Yoong. She truly understands  Anis’ situation...her needs, her condition and her mother’s challenges as well… hahaha. Seriously…I am very happy with her care and service.

Thank you very much.

*Ms Jacinta Lee Lai Yoong used the DNS Approach to first start with activating better ribcage (1st Core in FiCoMo) stabilization for efficient breathing and good regulation of Intra-abdominal Pressure (IAP) which is essential good Postural Stability. She also simultaneously addressed the pelvic core (3rd Core in FiCoMo) area which activates the balanced co-ordination of the diaphragm, abdominal walls and pelvic floor muscles for good IAP regulation.*

Oct-Nov 2013

I began experiencing a sharp, stabbing pain in my lower back along with sciatic pain in my right leg. It started one morning when I woke up one morning and just could not place my foot on the floor.

There was a constant pull at my buttock area which did not allow me to sit. It progressively worsened so badly to the point that eventually my spine shifted to a severe mal-alignment position (lateral spine shift) as I was always compensating by using my other non-painful areas. To put it simply, I literally became "crooked"!I couldn’t do normal activities and it was difficult to get in and out of bed to the point that I was wheelchair bound. I saw a spine specialist who recommended an operation after evaluating my MRI.

However, I declined to be operated. Instead, I opted for an epidural. Unfortunately, this did little to relief my sciatica pain and I continued to be "crooked" and in pain “24/7” (ALL the time).

Sept 2014.

I visited Harold Lock in MyPhysio FiCoMo Specialist Centre (then known as MyPhysio) and was recommended to try the DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization) Approach by Prof Kolar from Czech Republic. Frankly I didn’t know what it was but I was desperate to try anything if it could help as I did not want to be operated on.

With the DNS Approach in my physiotherapy treatment at MyPhysio FiCoMo Specialist Centre, I was able to gain back my mobility and comfort steadily. I finally have pain-free periods in my life! I am now able to stand and sit without spasms of pain, as well as get out of bed in the morning without a lot of groaning.

I have now returned back to work and have planned for a long holiday in December, something I would never even dare to dream of last year. In fact now… I have finally been able to travel for holidays to Bangkok and Hong Kong!

I would recommend this DNS Approach to anyone experiencing back pain.

It is worth a try! After all, you have nothing to ‘loose’ since this is a non-invasive intervention.
